Two persons including a security official sustained injuries as Taliban militants targeted police patrol team in Khawja Bahawdin district of the northern Takhar province on Monday, provincial administration spokesman Sunatullah Timori said.

According to the official, the attack was conducted early Monday in Kandaharian village of Khawja Bahawdin district against a police patrol team as a result Pacha Khan, the director of national security department in the district along with one of his bodyguards sustained injuries.

Some Taliban militants had also been killed in the firefight lasted for a while, the official asserted.

However, Taliban fighters haven't commented.

Taliban militants who are active in parts of Takhar province with Taluqan as its capital 245 km north of Kabul has been the scene of insurgency over the past couple of years.
